on the IRIS Web Site
3 March 1999 New IRIS Summary and Toxicological Review for Acetonitrile has been added to the IRIS web site.
Minor revisions to the IRIS Summary and Toxicological Review for Barium and Compounds
On November 19, 1998 residual web-conversion dates of 3/1/1997 and 4/1/1997 were removed from the top of individual substance files. These dates will be replaced with correct dates for the last revision for each file. The replacement process will take several months. Readers should consult the Revision History [Section VII] of each substance file for the date of the most recent revision.
EPA's 1999 IRIS agenda and request for information was published in the Federal Register Dec. 10, 1998 [63 FR 68285]. Click here to view the Federal Register notice.
The 2 digit dates within the substance files have been updated to 4 digits. Although EPA has certified IRIS as Y2K-compliant, the change to 4-digit years makes the system consistent with other EPA Y2K actions.
The summary for benzene has been revised with a new inhalation carcinogenicity assessment.
New IRIS Toxicological Review for Naphthalene has been added to the IRIS web site. This assessment was developed as part of EPA's IRIS Pilot Program.
New IRIS Summary for Naphthalene has been added to the IRIS web site. This assessment was developed as part of EPA's IRIS Pilot Program.
New IRIS Summaries and Toxicological Reviews for Chromium(III) and Chromium(VI) have been added to the IRIS web site. These assessments were developed as part of EPA's IRIS Pilot Program.

This IRIS web site and EPA's internal PC-based IRIS2 system have been running in parallel since March 1997. The scientific content of the two systems has been the same during this ramp-up period for the web site. Effective 7 February 1998, this web site is EPA's central location for IRIS. The PC-based IRIS2 system will not be updated after 2 February 1998. We made this change to improve the efficiency and flexibility of the system and speed our delivery of IRIS to you. This web site will be updated continuously as new information is produced for IRIS. Check this "What's New" file frequently for new information. Several improvements are effective today:
The Federal Register published the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's document, "Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS); Announcement of 1998 Program; Request for Information." This notice provided: "Announcement of IRIS 1998 Program and request for scientific information on chronic health effects of chemical substances." The text of the notice is available through this link. 30 December 1997 IRIS Pilot Project Toxicological Review Document for Chlordane Available A new Toxicological Review Document for Chlordane; CASRN 12789-03-6 is now available online as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. This document was developed under the IRIS Pilot Project. An updated IRIS summary file for the chemical will be loaded on or about 1 February 1998. The List of Substances on IRIS is updated to show the availability of this additional Toxicological Review. 23 December 1997 There are no start-of-the-month file updates for January 1998. 3 December 1997 There are no start-of-the-month file updates for December 1997. 12 November 1997 There are no start-of-the-month file updates for November 1997. 20 October 1997 The information in the previous "IRIS News" page has been combined with this page, and the IRIS News is eliminated as a separate page. 3 October 1997 The summary file for 1,3,5-Trinitrobenzene; CASRN 99-35-4 was updated with a new oral reference dose based on the support document mentioned below. The references in the summary file for Cumene were updated. There are no other substance file updates for October 1997. 18 September 1997 A new Support Document for 1,3,5-Trinitrobenzene; CASRN 99-35-4 is now available online as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. An updated RfD summary for the chemical will be loaded in the Fall, 1997. The List of Substances on IRIS is updated to show the availability of the Support Document and the Toxicological Reviews. 8 September 1997 The updated IRIS summary file for Tributyltin oxide is now available online. The updated file was developed under the IRIS Pilot Project. The file for Nitrite; CASRN 14797-65-0 was updated to correct a concentration reference in Section I.A.2. There are no other substance file updates for September 1997. Further details: Oral RfD Replaced on IRIS: Tributyltin oxide; CASRN 56-35-9 (RfD changed) Inhalation RfC Added to IRIS: Tributyltin oxide; CASRN 56-35-9 (RfD changed) Carcinogenicity Assessment Added to IRIS: Tributyltin oxide; CASRN 56-35-9 (RfD changed) File Revised: Nitrite; CASRN 14797-65-0 13 August 1997 The updated IRIS summary file for Cumene is now available online.
